Squidoo Questions: How Can You Improve Your Squidoo Lens Rank
Yesterday we asked the question: What Is The Squidoo Lens Rank? Today we’re going to have a look at what you can do to improve it!
As we now know – the lens rank is determined by a secret algorithm inside Squidoo – so there’s no way of knowing exactly what “ingredients” goes into the mixing bowl. However, during my time as a Squidoo Lens Master I’ve identified four factors that definitely does have an impact:
- The amount, quality and freshness of content on your lens.
- Ratings of your lens by visitors and Squidoo Angels.
- The amount of quality back-links to your lens.
- Sales made from Squidoo’s moneymaking modules (ie. Amazon, eBay & iTunes).
Let’s have a look at each of these four factors in a bit more detail, and how you can make sure that your lens is performing well.
Squidoo Lens Content - The content on your lens is a significant factor when it comes to determining your Squidoo Lens Rank. It needs to be unique and fresh. Unique lens content would be content you’ve written yourself, re-written from PLR or had someone else write solely for you! Fresh content is a bit more of a grey zone, as there’s only so much updates you can make to a lens and still improve it, but to keep some fresh and changing content on your site you could use an RSS module to post a feed from your blog or your tweets from Twitter.
Ratings Of Your Lens – Ratings can be given to your lens from other lens masters, and this will have an effect on your lenses, particularly the first 3-5 ratings you get. Any lens master who visit your lens can give you 1-5 stars for your effort. In most cases you’ll get 5 stars, because most lens masters won’t bother lenses they don’t really like. An extra boost can be given to your lens from the Squidoo Angels. You can ask people to rate your lens in the SquidU forum – but rate-swapping is strictly not allowed by Squidoo – so don’t even try! It will get you suspended.
Quality Backlinks To Your Lens – Backlinks are essential to the success of any website, and Squidoo lenses are no different. Internal links between your lenses will do some good, but really you’re better off getting backlinks by submitting articles to article directories such as Ezine Articles and GoArticles etc. These could be re-written from your original lens content. Also, you can use social bookmarking, as well as external rating websites such as SheToldMe.com which also offers advertising revenue sharing. Getting these backlinks will also help you get more attention from search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.
Sales Made From Yoor Lens – putting relevant products on your site, using the moneymaking modules inside Squidoo, is a great way to make commissions for both Squidoo and yourself. Whenever a sale is made from one of these modules, Squidoo will receive a commission that they will share 50/50 with you. Also, these sales will help boost your lens rank, also in the long term. So, make sure you make an effort to put a few of these modules in when appropriate, featuring products that are relevant to your lens content.
The above are four things you can work on to increase your lens rank. This is not an exhaustive guide – and there are more things you can do – but you’ll find that many of these are follow-ons to the above.
