Squidoo Questions: What Is The Squidoo Lens Rank?
The Squidoo Lens Rank is a hotly contested subject among Squidoo lens masters. Some will say they carry a huge amount of importance – while others would say that they don’t matter one bit! The truth is probably somewhere in between.
So, what is the Squidoo lens rank anyway? Why is it even worth talking about?
The Squidoo lens rank is an internal measure of how good a lens is – determined by an algorithm that Squidoo keeps tightly under wraps – a bit like Google’s Page Rank. This Algorithm can change from time to time, in order to shake things up a bit, but no matter what way you look at it, getting a top spot is going to take a considerable amount of effort.
People who say that the Squidoo lens rank is insignificant usually takes this point of view, because they believe that it is only used to determine the level of payout your lens will get from the Squidoo co-op every month, and since that amount is vastly below what you can make in affiliate commissions from your lens it should be ignored.
On the other hand you’ve got people who are quite competitive, who likes a challenge, and who will only stop when they get into the top tier of Squidoo lenses! They will hammer away at carving out a good lens rank, putting all their effort into a few lenses, rather than increase their lens portfolio.
Both of these extremes carry an element of truth, but a successful lens master will go for balance, and take a long term approach. If you want your Squidoo lenses to perform well, both inside Squidoo, and in the search engines – the Squidoo lens rank carry a broader significance. However, for as long as you haven’t got enough lenses to your name to be able to make a meaningful income from Squidoo ($100+ a month), focusing too much on your lens rank is probably a waste of your time.
So – in order to keep things short and simple:
The Squidoo Lens Rank is an internal Squidoo measure of how well your lens is performing – and how well made it is.
In the coming days we’re going to look closer into this – so keep an eye out for more posts coming up!
