Goals set…. Get Ready…. GO!
Yesterday I was talking about setting goals, and I mapped out my goals for the coming year as a Squidoo Freak. Like I said – I have other things going on online – but I want to focus on Squidoo this year, because it can make me a good foundation to go into other ventures that I’m doing and have plans to do. That’s for another day.
Now – the first step on the road to success is to set goals. But goals are no good if you don’t keep up with them – and hold yourself accountable. This is where a plan becomes a useful tool. If you see your goal as a ” big problem” – now try to find out how to break it down in lots of small portions that seems easier to deal with – and start to deal with one small bit at a time.
This is the next step on your journey to success – it’s called planning! Yesterday I set 4 goals – one for each quarter of 2010. Today I’m going to make a plan for my first quarter goal.
My Goal is to have 50 great lenses (with Squidoo Lensrank below 100,000) – and my deadline is March 31st 2010.
In order to determine what is needed – I have to look at the current state of things. As I’m writing this, I have a total of 20 Squidoo lenses, 12 of which is below Lensrank 100,000. If I keep up this ratio, I’m going to need to have 80 lenses published by my deadline. This would give me quite an amount of work to do – 20 lenses a month – or 2 every 3 days. It’s not impossible – I could build a lens or two every day – but then they wouldn’t be great lenses.
Alternatively – I can build less lenses – and make sure their lensrank is below the 100,000 mark for more of them.
What I’ll probably do is something in between. So here’s my plan:
- I will publish 3 (maybe 4) lenses a week
- I’m going to work to have 4/5 of my lenses with a lensrank below 100,000.
Sticking to this means that I’ll have a total of 59-72 lenses by my deadline – with 48-56 of them being great lenses. This would be OK as far asI’m concerned.
So, there we go! I’ve got my work cut out now – all there’s left to do is to get on with it!
